  • To act as a watchdog for Zimbabwe’s health systems with a specific focus on public health institutions. This will involve establishing a monitoring service in the country’s main provincial public and community hospitals. This will enhance government and private sector accountability on health delivery while contributing to the recognition/restoration of health as a democratic right for Zimbabweans as enshrined in the country’s constitution.
  • To monitor and analyse media coverage of health matters and provide media alerts on actual and potential health crisis areas.
  • To provide data, statistics and information on the health systems in public health institutions to the Parliamentary Health Committee, Ministry of Health and Child Welfare and other civil society organizations
  • To mobilise citizen participation and involvement in health related issues and concerns- through workshops and meetings in which citizens are involved in identifying their health needs, setting priorities and developing citizen driven strategies to address arising challenges.
  • To keep Zimbabwean citizens aware of what is happening in their community and their world in terms of health matters.
  • To monitor implementation of the National Health Strategy and other health policy positions on health system strengthening, lobby and advocate for policy reviews and changes where necessary on service issues such as:
  • Supply of medicines and medical supplies
  • Provision of functional equipment and infrastructure
  • Provision of Transport and Communication Systems
  • Issues of leadership and governance at the provincial and referral hospitals
  • Conduct of health personnel
  • Determinants of health – factors outside the health sector which have an impact on health
  • Dissemination of health information to the general public
  • To act as a research and policy think tank on health issues.
  • To engage stakeholders through providing a platform for dialogue and debate around health concerns such as budgeting and expenditures in the public health systems.
  • To safeguard and protect the health of the general public through advocacy and lobbying.
  • To promote social justice and social change in Zimbabwe’s public health institutions. Watchdog activity can help to assure that everyone is treated fairly and with dignity in Zimbabwe’s health institutions.
